In addition to the planned ‘hardscapes’ changes; adding a staff parking lot and making a drive-through student drop off behind the District Office, redesigning the current parking lot, adding portables, shade structure, upgrading the basketball courts, there have also been upgrades to the air and heat, electrical, septic and bathrooms. We still have a ways to go, but the buildings will be painted, the playfield refurbished, and the rooms ready for action when we start back in August.

The news about all programs moving has been either delayed or not as prominent due to the COVID Pandemic crisis and the shift into living with social distancing and Distance Learning.

Re-opening: additional information.  For all Charter programs:

I understand that it could be difficult to make a firm decision without knowing all the details, but the basic question the survey asks pertains to us knowing who is wanting to come back, and who would prefer to stay in the current DL format for the months remaining in the current school year. So far, there are between 20-25% who are saying that they want to stay with Distance Learning only.  Transportation, health concerns, comfort in the DL format are all considerations for families.

Regardless of the program, the on-site options will...

We had a special event for our students in grades K-8 who wanted to attend last Friday, February, 12. Three seniors from Notre Dame High School in San Jose. They took their passions of art, science, and care of the ocean and wrote a picture book about ocean acidification.

It was very inspiring! Their presentation via zoom was very accessible to our students in grades 2-8, and based on their comments through chat, the students were engaged and curious. The girls had so much to share within so many various aspects; writing, drawing, publishing, the ocean, acidity, community activism...a little bit to support so many students' potential interests!

It is essential during our time in Distance Learning that we stay in close communication with you, as you have become our consistent eyes and ears in your student's progress, turning schoolwork in on time, as well as when your student needs more help.  Your teachers are emailing you and your student when they see that they have not been attending, turning work in on time, or may need an extra nudge of support.  Please continue to read and respond to any of your teachers’ emails in a timely manner...

We have officially entered the Winter season. The season often symbolizes both despair and hope. No one can deny that in this Winter of 2020, there is indeed various levels of despair and that we need to continue to build on those traits that will strengthen us and our hope. Take the time to slow your emotional reactions and accept that the pace we are given may not be what we want. Find some new skill or challenge during this time to do with your student, or help them explore what new skills they can take on themselves. Oftentimes focusing on a new goal can bring in a new light and/or purpose.

As we begin our last week of school before our Thanksgiving break, I want to stress the importance of the brain-body connection as well as the need for all of us to breathe deep and continue to take stock on how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our well-being and that of our children.

We are a month before the end of the first trimester of the school year, which means that it is progress report time for our programs who get grades. Our CR high school students will be getting their progress reports, and report cards for Nature Academy students are just around the corner. For our homeschool families, we are nearly a third of the way through the school year.

This is the time for students to take time to review their progress.
