SLVHS Concurrent Enrollment

Many students use the local colleges to supplement their education or satisfy graduation and college entrance requirements. As another option, Charter students can supplement their studies by concurrently enrolling in a core class or an elective class at San Lorenzo Valley High School. Below are the requirements and policies of our SLVHS concurrent enrollment options.

At the bottom of this page is the Concurrent Enrollment Contract that explicitly explains all the eligibility and participation requirements for all students applying to enroll in an SLVHS course concurrently. The Supervising Teacher(s) will not process the student/parent application without a meeting and a signed contract.

SLV High School Course Availability for Charter High School Students

During March and April, your Teacher Advisor will sit down with the family to determine a temporary schedule for the fall. This is when the family will need to determine if their student would benefit from taking a comprehensive high school course at SLVHS. The supervising teacher will place the parent/student request with the Charter Administration for review. All courses are filled on a seat availability basis as determined by the SLVHS administration. SLVHS fills their seats first with their enrolled students. Often, Charter students do not know if they are placed until the first or second week of school. If you are a "traveling" homeschool family or expect to miss several weeks of class each semester or spontaneously pick up to travel, this is not a good option for the family. Students are expected to attend every class—attendance matters.

Advanced Placement courses in English, Mathematics, Science, and the Social Sciences for students in grades 11-12. Charter students may be required to take a placement test given by the AP instructor.

Grad Night is open to any graduating senior and is not an SLVHS-sponsored event but a parent/community event. Charter parents are strongly encouraged to assist with this fun-filled, all-night, safe, and sober event for their students.

Students who wish to attend an SLVHS-sponsored dance or prom may do so with a "Guest Permission" slip from their Teacher Advisor. Watch the weekly bulletin for dance updates.

Concurrent Enrollment Policy

Coast Redwood High School is a separate high school from SLVHS. When a Charter student concurrently enrolls in a comprehensive high school course, SLVHS does not receive ADA (attendance funding) for the student sitting in the seat, which impacts their budget.

The comprehensive high school is being generous by filling an empty seat in their classroom(s) with a Charter student. In return, we strive to provide the comprehensive high school with Charter students who demonstrate an interest and strong desire to be in the class and exhibit a talent or background knowledge of the course.

This Charter student will be a positive contributor to the class as one who views enrolling in a comprehensive class as an acceleration and inspiration to their homeschooling and/or who wants the class to satisfy a UC requirement that otherwise could not be feasibly fulfilled in a homeschool environment, or at the college level, due to transportation challenges to and from the local college.

Concurrent Eligibility Policies

Our Coast Redwood High School eligibility policy aligns with the comprehensive high school eligibility requirements. However, CRHS takes further steps to ensure Charter students recognize they are homeschool students first and they demonstrate progress in all of their core studies, as well as fulfilling their obligations and requirements as stated on their Home School Contract and Semester Plan, not just in their electives, theater, and/or sports. Eligibility is taken seriously. CRHS does not follow the comprehensive high school 6-week eligibility rules. Eligibility is reviewed monthly as noted on a student’s Learning Log and academic progress.
