About Quail Hollow Integrated Arts

Quail Hollow Integrated Arts (QHIA) is a hybrid program within our SLVUSD Charter School, serving students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades, offering an interdisciplinary curriculum and a dynamic approach to learning where the arts are central to academics. Adhering to Adopted California Education Standards, students actively create, communicate through, and respond to their own and other’s work in the disciplines of visual arts, dance, music, and theatre, enhancing the understanding of and connections between core content areas. Collaborative Learning is integral to the program, using a variety of methodologies including Problem Based Learning, Inquiry-Based Learning, and Socratic Seminar. QHIA is a hybrid program, with an online component in core content areas, combined with a classroom experience for student collaboration and teacher support. Parents work in partnership with the credentialed teacher to determine the amount of independent study and classroom attendance that best supports their students.

“The arts are an essential element of education, just like reading, writing, and arithmetic… music, dance, painting, and theater are all keys that unlock profound human understanding and accomplishment.”
–William Bennett, Former US Secretary of Education

MEET THE TEACHERS

Amber Walker

I have been an arts educator in the San Lorenzo Valley for 20 years, teaching dance and theater to students ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years old. She was director and choreographer for Little People's Repertory Theater in Ben Lomond for eight years, taught dance classes for kids and adults at the Boulder Creek Rec Hall for 15 years, and directed and choreographed theater for students in the San Lorenzo Valley for the past 20 years at the SLVUSD Charter School and SLV High School. Upon earning my teaching credential in 2011, I have incorporated arts education into my full-time classroom teaching and also in after-school arts programs.

RACHEL HAGER

I bring eighteen years of teaching and even more years of parenting to my work with students and families.   I first moved to SLV from Minnesota when I attended UCSC to study Environmental Studies and Theater Arts thirty years ago. I have interned at Indian Canyon, a Costanoan Ohlone territory and that has taught me alot about cultural awareness. I also love nature and anything that has to do with protecting the oceans. My hobbies are video and radio production, nature exploration, and all visual and performing arts.
