About Quail Hollow Integrated Arts

Quail Hollow Integrated Arts (QHIA) is a hybrid program within our SLVUSD Charter School, serving students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades, offering an interdisciplinary curriculum and a dynamic approach to learning where the arts are central to academics. Adhering to Adopted California Education Standards, students actively create, communicate through, and respond to their own and other’s work in the disciplines of visual arts, dance, music, and theatre, enhancing the understanding of and connections between core content areas. Collaborative Learning is integral to the program, using a variety of methodologies including Problem Based Learning, Inquiry-Based Learning, and Socratic Seminar. QHIA is a hybrid program, with an online component in core content areas, combined with a classroom experience for student collaboration and teacher support. Parents work in partnership with the credentialed teacher to determine the amount of independent study and classroom attendance that best supports their students.

“The arts are an essential element of education, just like reading, writing, and arithmetic… music, dance, painting, and theater are all keys that unlock profound human understanding and accomplishment.”
–William Bennett, Former US Secretary of Education

Amber Walker
AMBER WALKER

I have been an arts educator in the San Lorenzo Valley for 20 years, teaching dance and theater to students ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years old. I was director and choreographer for Little People's Repertory Theater in Ben Lomond for eight years, taught dance classes for kids and adults at the Boulder Creek Rec Hall for 15 years, and directed and choreographed theater for students in the San Lorenzo Valley for the past 20 years at the SLVUSD Charter School and SLV High School. Upon earning my teaching credential in 2011, I have incorporated arts education into my full-time classroom teaching and also in after-school arts programs.

7 & 8th grade Interim QHIA Teacher

I spent 2 years as a UCSC intern in the QHIA classroom learning from Amber and the community. When I graduated from UCSC in 2019, I knew I wanted to work in a classroom like QHIA, so I attended CalState Teach where I received my teaching credential while working in several Santa Cruz County school districts. I love theater and have done shows with MCT. I also enjoy calligraphy, scrapbooking, and digital art.
