We have yet to hear confirmation for our WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) Chair, but we will be ready when the WASC committee arrives to visit our school’s programs in early March!
Every school that goes through WASC accreditation writes a report in which the school explains how the school supports student learning. The WASC process is a cycle that consists of a Self Study (where we are now) a Visit by a WASC committee who comes to support the self-study process (happening in March), and the Follow-up process whereby the school reviews, analyzes evidence and refines next steps to ensure the schools focus stays on best practices and student’s educational progress.
The report consists of 5 chapters that include: 1) data on student/community profile, analysis of data, clarification of student outcomes, 2) a summary of the progress made on the critical areas of follow-up from the previous WASC visit (our visit was in 2011), 3) an overall summary from our analysis of the profile data and progress, 4) Details and evidence in five categories of the schools structure: Organization, Standards-based Learning in Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment and Accountability, and School Culture and Support. 5) Next Steps in the action plan.
Chapters 1-3 of the report have been submitted to the District Office for review, and simple edits are the only clean up that is needed. Chapters 4 and 5 will be submitted the week we return in January. Next steps will be gathering the documentation the team will want to review that backs up our report.
