Charter News, June 11, 2015

posted Jun 22, 2015, 6:03 PM by Rhonda Schlosser

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.

Dear Parents,

The end of the year has come! Congratulations to all the high school graduates and  to the many middle and elementary students who advanced to the next level of their education.  And a huge congratulations to all the parents who support their children 24/7.  Thank you for all the many moments you spent supporting their efforts this year.  It is through your positive, loving communication and encouragement that the efforts of learning are solidified.

The Charter teachers will be starting their well deserved summer break beginning this Friday afternoon and will be back refreshed to start another wonderful year with your children on Monday, August 24.

You can expect to receive a newsletter from your teachers sometime mid-August, with details about your program’s beginning of the year events.

And now that the school year has come to a close, may you have many summer moments spent in the way that makes you most happy.

~Rhonda

New students should receive a kindergarten and new student registration information by June 24th. Also, the optional student accident insurance will be offered via the online registration process.

Families that do not have an email account will have their Snap Code mailed to their homes. The email will come from gheagerty@slvusd.org.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding the online student registration process, please contact our Student Information System Specialist, Gail Heagerty, at gheagerty@slvusd.org or by phone at 335-4425 ext. 117.

Changes next year:

Every year comes with changes, and next year is no different.

We close this year saying goodbye to Joe Paine, our math teacher, and to

Roberta Gutierrez. She is retiring from the District to spend her days with her loving family after 28 years with the district.

We thank you for all the warmth, skill, attention, and love you have given to hundreds of students and colleagues. You have been a guiding light for so many people over so many years that your legacy will live on in the hearts of the families of our valley for decades to come. We honor you and wave goodbye with hearts full of the joy it has been to know you.

Next year we will have a new administrative assistant, new math teacher, and a new teacher to support the SLV and BC homeschool programs at the Quail Hollow site. Additionally, I will  be supporting the Charter as full time administrator.  My primary office will be back at the Annex portable near Ludlow on the Felton Campus.

Another change next year will be that SLV and BC Homeschool programs will be blending together.  They have shared the same campus, sitting side by side for the last two years, sharing the same two full time teachers, as well as sharing many similar interests. We are combining what is beloved and works best from each program into one strong program and are excited to be able to blend in a way that maintains the integrity of each program’s roots while allowing us to take advantage of the excitement and inspiration that can come with change.

DATES TO REMEMBER:   (Please refer to your program’s newsletter for greater detail regarding dates and details specific to your program’s Field Trips and class events.)

  • August 24: First day back to school

  • Aug 28: Charter Beach Day

  • September 15-17: QH Homeschool Family Campout at New Brighton Beach State Park
