August 12, 2014
Welcome to the 2014-15 school year. Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 26th, only a couple weeks away! I trust you have all had a restful and rejuvenating summer, filled with handfuls of special days with family and friends, exploring the places and activities that feed your souls.
This year, all Charter programs will continue the implementation of Common Core curriculum, with a strong focus on math, using online materials, hands-on applications, and tutors to support your students. We have purchased additional Chromebooks for the classrooms, and of course will continue to keep nature, creativity, and the extended community, as a strong part of all our educational programming. Thankfully, all of our wonderful teachers will be back, well refreshed from their own holidays, to teach and spend the school year with your students. Lisa Michel will be back from her leave to work in our homeschooling programs, and John Kiersted will be returning to his Nature Academy classroom. Look for more email correspondence from your teachers soon.
Whether your child is enrolled in Nature Academy, or one of our many dynamic Homeschool programs, Rhonda & Roberta will be teaming again to support you and your students. This year, Roberta will be working more closely with the high school students, and I will be working at the Quail Hollow Campus during my teaching percentage. And of course both of us will be working both sites and all programs when the needs arise. I also want to welcome our new registrar, Holly Thomas to the Charter Office. She comes to us from the offices of UCSC, and has already learned many of our students’ names while inputting information into our new online enrollment program, Infosnap. During the year, we hope she will have the opportunity to put faces to some of the names.
Each of you should have received an email or letter notification about our new on-line student registration system, Infosnap. The new system eliminates all the paperwork sent to your home in previous years, (yay!) However, your student is not completely enrolled until you complete their enrollment online. Please make sure that you register your student online ASAP, if you haven’t done so already. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 336-5167.
We are grateful that the SLV school district appreciates and supports our Charter programs, and I am looking forward to bringing our new Superintendent, Dr. Laurie Bruton and Debi Bodenheimer, the new Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum to visit our classrooms throughout the year. We will also be having our WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) Committee visit in March. Look for updates on what is happening within the Charter in our bimonthly Charter News. Such an exciting year!
We look forward to meeting our new and returning students soon. You are indeed a special group of families. Until then, may you enjoy your last days of summer vacation.
~Rhonda & Roberta
