Unfortunately, the severe weather and closed roads in our area prevented us from meeting in person. No video presentation can show the true vibrancy of the teachers and program that is the heart of Nature Academy. We hope to meet you and your student in the future.

hello and welcome to the spring 2023 New Delhi information it's night or the SOB nature Academy we had meant to do this in person but the really foul weather vented us from doing so so we thank you for your kind of viewing of our recording in this video you will find out who we are what we do and how you can become a part of nature Academy we are enthusiastic teachers my name is Rosie hope I teach predominately 6th grade was some 7th and 8th grade classes I've been working for the district for ten years now teaching for the nature Academy the past seven I love to travel and spend time Outdoors I'm always looking for new skills to learn and classes to take I enjoy teaching for the nature Academy because we have smaller class sizes and are able to teach character education along with akka. my name's Wade accept I am the sixth grade science teacher for nature Academy I also work for a high school program here at the charter I've been teaching for 11 years in District and that nature Academy for the last four anything dealing with the ocean and everything dealing with the mountain so I'm in a very very good spot I particularly loved teaching sixth graders because they're kind of joy for learning it's infectious to me and then I get to keep track and hang with him for the next two years their name nature Academy my name is Cindy Presley and I currently teach 7th grade language arts 7th and 8th science and 7th and 8th PE and health this is my 16th year teacher and my fourth year teaching at the nature Academy local I grew up here in the Santa Cruz mountains and I really love teaching in my community I also love teaching at the nature Academy particularly because the dedicated professionals who really care about the kids and I think it's an ideal Middle School environment for the students to really learn who they are and they're allowed to be who they are I'm listen Stockton I work for the district since 1989 so 30 plus years I've been working for the nature Academy since we started it about 25 years ago and I love to buy to put basketball and cook using if I'm doing a zoom cooking class there I like to read and just so and do all sorts of class tonight and interested in nature Academy is because I like the idea of a school or you can really teach to your passion and that you could have a school that looks at character education as well as just academics I like the idea of a brain Bay School where we can do Hands-On education inside the classroom and as well as Adventure outside of the classroom in addition to our enthusiastic teachers are program on includes involve parents and highly motivated students we find here at the nature Academy that education functions most effectively when the staff parents and students are all working together like a three-legged stool if one leg not working the whole stool false the ways that parents help out is by teaching electives fundraisers taking homework to grade in class support coming in as a guest speaker or helping to transfer students on an Excursion what do we do well we have a very rigorous standards-based curriculum you can see one of our students working there we teach to the multiple intelligence and always try to sponsor a growth mindset is not how smart you are but how you are smart we really pay attention to High character and academic growth and expectations we are sponsor integrated meaningful content through study trips we called them steady trips rather than feel just because we do learn on all these it's not a day off school school is the place to be not the place to be and what we do here is we really provide many opportunities for Project based learning is keep science journals and take them out into the field to record observations the students read and write in all content areas probably more writing than in a traditional setting our motto here is work hard play hard the focus in geography involves mapping the world and the students are provided with opportunities to practice public speaking and active listening students test themselves biggest physically and academically our program is based on 19 life skills bordering the slide find that when students are able to work on these life skills along with their academics they are more well-rounded members of their community now some call it a character education or ethics education but we we do Focus like Rosie said on those 19 life skills and it's it's really about transferring the responsibility of Education from teachers and parents to the students themselves some of the ways that we Foster that is by allowing students to self reflect and self assess and every content area each trimester paying attention to their areas of growth or areas that they need to grow another thing that helps oldest character in our students are the on the many varied embedded community service opportunities whether that's personally or through a structured way on field trips or study trips as we call them here we have a lot of models you're the nature academy one is work learn and Inspire and we always want to be sure that our students are safe seen as a ported we noticed that nature Academy not only feel okay to do well themselves they also tend to encourage each other to do their personal best life goals of Everett perseverance patients and organization lead to tremendous results for students do you want me to respect how you are student can become a part of the nature Academy and you just want to follow these four easy steps one pick up an application from the Charter office or download the charter website be sure you fill out parts of the application your son or daughter will your child will need to complete a handwritten letter of intent you'll need to turn in that completed application to the Charter office by 3 p.m. Friday March 31st that time is actually really important each application is stamped and if it's turned in late your. Application may not be part of our lottery so it's important to get there by that time we went after the Lottery 2nd place you can check the list postings on April 21st at the Charter office you can also give the Charter office a call to see where your student may have landed in the drawing or on a waiting list thank you for listening to this non-standard info night and we look forward to your applications and to meeting your students
