Charter News

June 7, 2019

"In the summer, the days were long, stretching into each other. Out of school, everything was on pause and yet happening at the same time, this collection of weeks when anything was possible."

―Sarah Dessen

Dear Parents,

Another fabulous year has come to a close. I know that each of you holds special memories of the days and months your students shared with their friends and teachers.  Each student made great strides in their academic achievements, each added to their creative explorations, built stronger friendships, and pushed their limits in physical and social-emotional skills.

Thank you each and every parent for standing beside them, behind and ahead of them throughout the year as they gained deeper independence and aspiration toward goals that will keep them excited and striving to do their best.

Thank you to the many many parents who dedicated time in the classrooms and on field trips and excursions throughout the year.

A huge thanks to all the Charter teachers and staff for the work that they did throughout the year. They work with their heart on their sleeve. Their commitment, joyful spirits, and dedication to teach and mentor each child in our school programs is beyond compare.

First Day Back to School is August 19.  Charter Offices will open again on July 29th. You can expect a welcome back email from me sometime soon after that.  Teachers will come back August 14, beginning the start of the year with Professional Development days and time to organize their classrooms for your students.  You can expect to hear from them soon after they come back.

As you read this I am off to Finland on an educational tour and will fly back to the U.S. to continue a vacation with family and friends, enjoying a wedding, exploring new locations and getting as much exercise and reading as I can.

I hope that you too will have the opportunity to do what fulfills your soul the most.

All the best!

~Rhonda

SUMMER PROGRAMS: Interested in giving your students the experience to see a live
Shakespeare play?

Santa Cruz Shakespeare is excited to offer our second annual Student Matinee Week Program in August and September of 2019. We are proud to present Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors as the Student Matinee Production.

During the final week of our 2019 Season, a professional production of The Comedy of Errors will remain open for five student-only matinee performances running from August 28-29, and September 3-5. These 10 am matinees are for students and their chaperones only, and include a post-show discussion with the actors after each performance. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every single high school student in the Santa Cruz County and beyond has seen a live, professional production of one of Shakespeare’s plays by the time they graduate! Tickets are free for Title I schools, and only $10 per student for all others, with additional limited scholarship opportunities. Plus, we will provide a free adult chaperone ticket for every 15 students who attend.

For more information, such as our FAQ page, and to signup for our Student Matinee Week, please visit us online at santacruzshakespeare.org/matinee.

Last year's Student Matinee Week was such a success, that we hope you will join us for our Student Matinee Week 2019! Please contact us if you have any questions or comments; I am more than happy to speak with you by phone at 831-460-6396 x5 or via this email address. I look forward to seeing your school in The Grove Theater!      Best, Alexandra Schroeder; Education Coordinator
